Dr. Clarence Verdell, 66, is facing charges of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, distribution of controlled substances, health care fraud and money laundering. Verdell worked for Dr. Alan Summers, who authorities say was also recently indicted for illegally selling prescriptions, for approximately six months. After which, he opened his own clinic in Philadelphia and allegedly followed Summer’s “illegal practices of selling prescriptions for cash,” specifically Suboxone and Klonopin . Moreover, Verdell allegedly marketed his clinic to Summer’s patients and promised them “more drugs for less money,” authorities said, adding that Verdell didn’t make medical or mental health examinations while providing false information to health insurance companies so customers could fill prescriptions using their insurance.
