For years, area adult literacy students have depended on the consistency of the English as a Second Language (or ESL) classes held at the Hudson Area Library on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday mornings 10 a.m.-noon. As of July 2017, there will no longer be staff to conduct these classes. Team teaching is optimal for several reasons. It allows volunteers to coordinate with each other to take time off and lightens the burden of teaching a class. It also provides more instructors to the students so that individual students get more direct help. Prior teaching experience is not necessary as training is provided online, as well as ongoing support from the area coordinator and support staff. Until the end of June there are also two very experienced teachers in Hudson giving additional training to new volunteers on working with a group classes.
